Denali National Park

Sorry for the delay in posting.. but tonight is the first night we've had Internet access in a few nights.  We're in an RV Park in Anchorage tonight after spending two nights in Denali National Park.  We had an absolutely amazing time in Denali.  The weather was perfect for the day we took the tour bus (a school bus) from our campground into the park.  We got an early start with the bus picking us up at about 6:50 AM and started looking for wildlife.

We saw a lot of animals... Moose, Bear, Caribou, and Dahl Sheep, along with Eagles, Falcons and other assorted critters.

But the most amazing thing was that we got a good clear view of the Mt McKinley.  Mt McKinley is the highest peak in North America and because of its height generates its own weather.  Typically its only visible for 5 or 6 days a month.  It hadn't been seen in the last two weeks, but we got a perfect view of it on our tour.

Here are some photo highlights...

We saw four different bears.  Here's one....

We saw many Caribou.  They were all over the park.  Caribou are interesting in that they are the only Deer species where both the male and female have antlers.

We also spotted a moose!  On our drive across Canada into Alaska we saw several Moose and one calf, but this particular guy was in Denali.

Lots of other critters call Denali their home.

But a trip into Denali wouldn't be complete without a hike up a hill.  Here we all are at the top of the hill near Eilson visitor center the end of the road for our particular tour of Denali.

Tomorrow we go rock climbing south of Anchorage.

Thanks for checking into our blog!

  1. Beautiful shot of Mt McKinley. And now you got a picture of my favorite meat. Moose! We have a lot of them at home. A lot of high ways are fenced and have warning signs. You don't want to hit one of those! Plus once they have decided to cross the road the will keep going. So you have to aim for the back part for least impact. Not that you have to worry about that in your big RV. LOL
