Beluga Point and Byron Glacier Trail

On Wednesday we stopped at a road side vista called Beluga Point where Beluga whales are typically seen from a rocky outcropping from the shore.

We spent around 15 minutes climbing the rocks and looking for Beluga, but didn't see anything for sure that we knew to be whales...

Our next stop was to take a hike through the Byron Glacier Trail.  This was an unexpectedly cool place.  The glacier has a blue tint to it and is partly buried by rock debris that has fallen on it over the years.

The blue ice is more clearly visible in this picture.

A large collapsed space in the glacier.  Large enough to easily climb into, although it would be dangerous because of the potential for more collapse.

Deep inside the hole in the glacier you can see solid ice.

A view from on top of the glacier down the valley.

Yesterday, we stayed in Hope Alaska... a small town with a great cafe and the boys had a chance to fish on the Resurrection Creek.  For some reason, I forgot to take any pictures...

I'm writing this post while sitting in an RV park in Seward AK.  It is a rainy Friday morning.  So we're reorganizing our plans.  We were going to do a long hike, but with the bad weather, that doesn't seem very pleasant.   So we'll have to figure out what to do next here in Seward.  We're staying here for four nights.
